Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies applicable documentation, policies and procedures

works effectively with others to undertake and complete the preparation of surface for road marking that meets all of the required outcomes including:

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

using a range of communication techniques and systems such as signage to advise others of work activity and exclusion zone

demonstrates completion of preparation of surface for road marking that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

selecting and inspecting for faults in plant, tools and equipment

identifying, reporting and recording hazards, risks and environmental issues

identifying location of line marking and clearing area from dirt, debris, contaminants, hazards and fixtures

spotting straight lines and curves in the area

removing pre-existing marks/lines that are visible

completing removal of at least fifty (50) meters of pre-existing visible marks/lines using at least one of the following on three (3) separate occasions;

water grit blasting

shot blasting

grinding

sand blasting

water blasting


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge in preparing a surface for road marking through:

applying legislative, organisation and site requirements and procedures for:

work, health and safety

equipment operation

operational, maintenance and basic diagnostics

JSAs/safe work method statements

housekeeping

applying road markings

equipment types, characteristics, technical capabilities and limitations

complying with project quality requirements

identifying and using civil construction terminology

site isolation and traffic control responsibilities and authorities

interpreting road markings

identifying and using road marking materials

applying processes for the calculation of material requirements, application rates and curing times

applying substrate preparation techniques and processes

using redundant marking removal materials and primers

complying with safety data sheets and materials handling methods

being prepared for fire/accident/emergency
